accent modification
ASHA defines accent modification as “an elective service sought by individuals who want to change or modify their speech.”
The primary goal of this service is not to eliminate accentedness, but to increase intelligibility, ease, and naturalness of communication.
dialect coaching
Dialect coaches are professionals who teach individuals to use a particular form of a language which is peculiar to a specific region or social group.
They are often used by actors for assistance with challenging roles. Practice focuses on making your accent sound authentic and natural.

Personalized Evaluation
A thorough examination of the client’s skills and challenges, from which we decide what goals to address and how.
The Process
Skill Building Online
New skills and strategies are taught using a variety of therapeutic techniques. Guidance is provided at every step.
Training for Independence
The client learns how to structure their own sessions for future practice. Exercises, literature, and materials are recommended based on client need and progress.

About Patrick Atkinson
Patrick Atkinson combines his education in Speech Language Pathology and theater in every session. He first learned the international phonetic alphabet at the Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts, where he completed the actor training program. Patrick further developed his skills with speech sounds and other communication skills at San Francisco State University, earning a Masters of Science in Communicative Disorders. He has maintained his career as a Speech Language Pathologist through continuing education and intensive independent study. Years of cooperation with public schools and Montessori charter schools have informed his work. In addition, he has worked in community theaters throughout the Central Coast and Bay Area of California, starring in such roles as Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Hercule Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express.

My session with Patrick was terrific. He sent me a marked up script ahead of time with some of the rules for the accent I was trying to learn. During my session, he was clear and patient. He let me practice and would correct me and give me tips on how to improve pronunciations. By the end of the hour, I felt I had the basics to master the accent with the tools he gave me.
